Shamil Cristina Castro, M.D.

Meet Dr Shamil Castro. Dr Castro graduated from St. Matthew's University School of Medicine on May 2013 before moving to Tallahassee. Born in the U.S. but of Hispanic background (both of Cuban and Puerto Rican decent), Shamil moved from P.R. to Orlando, Florida at 18 years old to pursue a career in medicine which she knew she loved since the age of 4. Her interest developed from her grandfather, a man she admires profoundly, who as an immigrant worked hard to pursue the American dream for his family and grandchildren and has taught her the importance of hard work and perseverance. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the University of Florida where she participated in research, medical mission trips as well as met her now husband Carlos. It was during this time that she realized the importance of primary care, "There is nothing in the world that I find more rewarding than helping those in need and preventing illness." After obtaining her BS degree she began medical school and graduated with a combined MD/MBA
