A native of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Camilo received his medical degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo. He was the first student to graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors in the history of his medical school. As a young physician in the Dominican Republic, he volunteered with several non-profit organizations which aid underprivileged communities. After moving to the United States, Dr. Camilo completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. As a medical resident, he also served as a volunteer for community programs supporting stroke and colon cancer prevention. After completing a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC), Dr. Camilo then moved on to the University of Colorado, where he completed an additional fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at the university’s renowned Anschutz Medical Campus. During that time, he also served as an instructor of medicine at the University of Colorado. Prior to joining Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates, Dr. Camilo served as an assistant professor of medicine at UMKC, where he actively contributed to the education and training of medical students, medical residents, and gastroenterology fellows. Dr. Camilo also formed part of the interventional gastroenterology service at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, a tertiary referral center which also serves as the largest teaching hospital for UMKC’s School of Medicine. Dr. Camilo has presented numerous abstracts at national gastroenterology meetings, and he has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Endoscopy and The American Journal of Cardiology. He is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American College of Gastroenterology. In addition to general gastroenterology, Dr. Camilo's interests include endoscopic management of pancreaticobiliary disorders using EUS and ERCP, luminal stenting for palliation of cancer involving the GI tract, as well as endoscopic therapy for Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal dysplasia, and esophageal cancer.
